Cars, Keys, and Pregnancy Brain

Cars, keys, and pregnancy brain. Yes, they are all related. Let me tell you how:

Ben plays soccer on Sundays. Today is Sunday, so he had a soccer game. I dropped him off, ran to Old Navy, and then came back. Ellie had fallen asleep in the car, so I decided to park, turn on the air, read my fantastic book (George Orwell's 1984), and wait until she woke up. I figured that it would be silly to have the car all the way on, as I was not driving, so I just turned it on "partially" so I could have some air. I thought this was a good idea, and that I was conserving energy, gas, and whatever else might possibly be associated with having the car "fully on". Afterall, who doesn't like to "be green"?

Then, my car died. Oops. Mistake #1.

Ellie wakes up, I go tell Ben what happened. He said "you're not supposed to do that". I replied. "No one told me!"

After the game in which they lost :( I go to find my keys. They aren't in my purse. I reluctantly ask Ben if he took them, and then looked all around. They were nowhere to be found. Someone sarcastically suggests that they are probably in the ignition in my car. That's ridiculous! I would never do that! Ben headed to the car, and found my keys in my ignition. For real. Mistake #2.

He and I both decided to blame the baby for stealing my brain, and all was good. A nice trip to Starbucks followed, and now we are at home resting from a long, but wonderful day.

Numbers

9 : Times I've read If You Give a Pig a Pancake to my daughter...today
2: Times I've tried to hide this same book
2: The number of copies we own. Ellie always knows where the extra one is.
1: Number of nursing covers I sewed on my own today
0: Times I jammed my sewing machine-this is a huge improvement
536: Words in my essay due tonight
7: Times I've been on facebook today...sigh
4: Nights before preschool is back from Spring Break
27: Kids whose faces I can't wait to see!
1: Piece of cake that I'll be eating tonight...thank you James!

Gas

Today I was on my way to Whole Foods. My gas light has been on for a couple of days, so I decided to stop at the Chevron by my house before hopping on the freeway. I pull up, get out of my car, and start pushing and pulling on my gas cover thingy to get it open. I realize that there is a little latch inside my car that I need to pull first (which unlocks the cap). I then realize that I don't know if I've ever filled my car up with gas. ???? Weird. I've owned it since late summer...August? September? Why haven't I ever filled up my car with gas?

Obviously, my wonderful husband has been filling up my car whenever I tell him (or when he notices) that my gas light is on. I have the best husband in the world! Thank you, lover!

Blowouts

Today brother Louie popped his head into the classroom and asked if I had a few minutes to help with something. Since we had an extra teacher today-go Miss Shontell-I stepped out and followed him to the office where my daughter was being held about a foot away from my husband. There is poo on the ground. Apparently, Ellie had a nice blowout, which was actually a really good thing as she has had a bladder infection and has not really poo'd since last Thursday. Antibiotics always make poo a little funny, too.

So, the best part of this whole thing, and the reason I'm blogging, was my husbands thoughts on how to get her clothes off without getting the poo all over her. He suggests, in all seriousness, "we can just cut her shirt off". I started laughing. Later I came to find out that Louie had the same idea. All I could think of was being at the ER when they tear off someones clothes so they can operate really quickly. Daddy's are funny. The have an interesting outlook on things...much different than my own. I am thankful for the joy that living life with Ben brings me. I am also thankful that my little one is feeling much better!
